Dutch Dare Challenge #209 - Shaped Cards

Well, I'm back...
I still have my brace on for another week and many weeks of rehab in front of me.  I am trying to use my left hand as much as I can.  The more I use it the quicker I will regain my mobility.  You just have to tolerate the pain and use a sticky tool to pick up small objects, since my fingers still don't grasp well.  With that in mind I wanted to join the design team this week at the Dutch Dare Challenge.  The challenge to make a shaped card - basically something other than a rectangle.  Our sponsor this week is Sassy Studios Designs.  The image I selected was "Madam Honey".  Hope you can join us this week!

For this card I took a piece of white card stock - folded it in half.  I positioned my largest circle die just slightly above the fold to create a round card.  Using the same die I cut out a piece of pattered paper (DCWV The Once Upon Time) and attached it to the front of the card face.  I then took a piece of SU Wild Wasbi paper, ran it though my big shot with my largest Nestabilities "Beaded Circle" die. I punched out several small circles using SU Brushed Gold card stock and added them to the beaded part of the die cut.  I attached this to the back of the white card.  I finished by adding my image that was colored with my copics.  The sentiment was computer generated and die cut using my Die-namic Fishtail Flags.  I used a gold gel pen and Stickles to accent the image and Glossy Accents on her crystal ball.  If this made absolutely no sense I have a pic to show what I'm talking about.  It's a little blurry since I took it it one handed.

At this point I will try to post as much as I can.  This card was whole day project with some help from my husband.  So until next time....

Why I Have Been Gone For A While...

To anyone following my blog you may have noticed I haven't been posting as much as I normally do.  Well last week I slipped on the ice and ended up in the emergency room at the local hospital.  I ended up with a compound fracture to my left wrist.  The bone on the right side of my wrist broke and pierced though the skin on the left side of my wrist.  I had surgery that night after sitting in the ER for 6 hours.  They inserted a Y shaped plate with 8 screws to put the bone back in place.  Because the bone had broke through the skin I sayed overnight for several rounds of antibiotics, so I won't end up with an infection.  They put it in a splint and because of the plate & screws holding everything in place I don't need a cast.  I started rehab yesterday and am wearing a soft brace.  You would think you would just be able to go about your business, but the fingers and wrist just don't want to cooporate.  It is really painful to move them, so I am hoping I will be back in the swing of things soon.  I really miss making cards.  Kelly has generously given me time off from the Dutch Dare Design Team, but I still checkout all the cards submitted and comment on the wonderful entries.  I hope I will be posting cards and entering challenges real soon.
Until then....

Dutch Dare Challange #207 - Girls Rule

Today's challenge over at the Dutch Dare is "Girls Rule".  Our sponsor this week is Lacy Sunshine.  Heather, owner and creator of the "Eleanor & Pickles" digi images sent over some really super cute images to work with this week.  I must admit when I saw how detailed the images were I was a little nervous using my copics.  However, I printed two images -  the first one to experiment with my colors and her panda outfit.  Once I had that figured out I colored the image and I can say I am please how they turned out.  The image I used was Eleanor & Pickles Panda Bear.  And since the theme this week is girls rule I used a lot of pink.  Hope you will be able to join us this week!

"Anything Goes" using Art Impressions Golden Oldies Jump In

There's a story behind today's card.  This is a thank you card for our great friend, John.  He is what is considered a "snowbird", since he lives in Florida in the winter.  Last month he kindly let all three of us stay at his home for 10 days.  He took us everywhere to also look at condos, since my husband would also like to escape the snowy winters.  We will again be visiting Florida this month and will stay with him again, so we are going to send him some gift cards.  Anyways, Seven Springs is the condo community and I thought this card would make him smile.  On to the card.  I used the Art Impressions "Golden Oldies Jump In" stamp.  I've had it on my desk for quite a while and decided to color it up with my copics.  I am entering this card to the "Anything Goes" challenge at Simon Says Stamp.  The random draw winner gets a $50 gift voucher to the store.  For me that would be just a starting point, since there are several new items I just have to have!  I also am submitting this to the "Anything Goes" challenge at One Crazy Stamper.  The challenge runs all month long, so you have plenty of time to enter a card.

The sentiment was done on my computer, so I could customize it.  I also added Glossy Accents to the goggles, so there is a little bit of a glare on the pic.  I did a standard A2 card, but the image is large, so it took up most of the card.

Mojo & PTI Make It Monday

Today's card was based on this week's Papertrey Ink "Make It Monday" challenge.  Dawn McVey's video showed how to make your own custom glitter trim.  So the challenge was to make a card using your punches and/or dies for the glitter trim.  The layout for the card came from this week's Mojo Monday challenge.  The challenge to make a round or square card based on this week's sketch.  Here is the sketch for this week.

I changed it up a little by running my glitter border across the front of the card and adding my sentiment more in the middle.  It seemed to look better with the border I used.  As for the border I dug out my glitter, which I seldom use and made a mess!  I ended up with glitter everywhere.  Dawn used a Xyron machine for adding adhesive to her border.  I didn't have one so I smoothed out a white craft glue on to my punched border.  I think using the Xyron machine would be a lot neater.  Here is my card for this week.
